China FAW Group Corporation is currently billed as the number one automobile maker in China, and is also one of the oldest in the industry. With several hybrid projects in the work, FAW is aggressively pushing electric and hybrid vehicles to China’s market.

Chang’an Motors (also called ChangAn or Chana Auto) brought to the market the first Chinese-made hybrid car Jie Xun HEV, and is continuing its aggressive plan to develop more innovative and affordable hybrid sedans and minivans for the Chinese market. You may be soon test driving a Chana hybrid at a dealer near you too.

SAIC Motor is China’s largest car manufacturer. It’s ready to launch the Roewe 750 hybrid and Roewe 550 plug-in hybrid sedans in 2011, and will supply alternative cars to the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. It will be only a matter of time before this giant Chinese carmaker take its products across the world.

Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group (GAIG) is one of the significant car makers in China. GAIC is authorized to acquire state assets and receives subsidies from Guangzhou province. With increased investment in R&D and facilities, new GAIG sedans are expected to roll out of its new plant in 2010.

Great Wall Motor Company is making serious progress with a number of hybrid and electric cars and trucks to enhance its already strong line of conventional car and truck products. And like many other Chinese car manufacturers in recent years, GWM is making its presence known with appearances at the largest auto shows around the world.

Dongfeng Motor Corporation, as one of China’s biggest players in the automobile industry, is also a significant contributor to the development of clean cars. The trend to develop environment-friendly cars has overtaken China’s auto industry, and Dongfeng was one of the first to respond to the call.

China is becoming a force to reckon with in the auto industry, and I’m not talking about the huge potential number of car-buying consumers. I’m talking about China’s car manufacturing industry. And specifically clean, low-emission cars.
