Car Buyers Found Themselves Ineligible for Cash for Clunkers Over the Weekend

Some cars’ combined mpg has magically increased or decreased over the weekend. So why is that important you ask? Well for those who thought their old cars qualify for the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) or Cash For Clunkers program last week, they found out over the weekend that they now no longer qualify!
According to cars.gov, which is the government’s sole source for official information on the CARS program, trade-in vehicles generally must get a combined 18 or less mpg in order to qualify for the cash program. The combined mpg can no longer be found at fueleconomy.gov website, as previously instructed. You now need to go here http://blogs.edmunds.com/strategies/2009/07/epa-refreshes-cash-for-clunkers-eligible-mpg-ratings.html to find your eligibility.
People have already run into problems, as reported on Edmunds.com.
Here’s a piece from CNN.com, 07-28-09.
